Memories from elementary and jr high school, detroit

Have you ever wondered in the back of your mind where are the people who used to be your class mates in elementary and jr high school?  I want to start a blog on "where are they now" .  You can post what you remember about the school, the teachers, councelors, and friends.

I'll start with my memories of Pattengill Elementary, located at 8411 Northfield, Detroit, MI 48204 between Maplewood and Spokane.

My name is Alberta Hadley,( Floyd) back then.   I graduate 1971. I lived on Vancouver Street, right off of Beechwood.  I now live in Florida.  The teachers that stand out in my mind are of course my kindergarten teacher Mrs Vanderberg.  I remember the wooden floor in the huge room, the coat room which connected to the ajoining room.  Those were fond memories.  The other teachers who stand out in my mind are the gym teachers Mr Love and Mr Hate. There were 2 gyms, the larger one was located in the basement and the small gym was the cafeteria.  The tables let up into the wall to clear the room.  I also remember the math teacher Mr Lowey.  He use to pick his nose all the time (yuck)!

Are you having flashbacks yet?  Remember the candy store across from the school.  Man, how many trips did we take there?  And there was another candy store behind the school,  I can't remember the side street it was on.  That one we use to sneek off of the playground during recess to go to.  Wow, the memories are just flooding back.

Some of the classmates I remember are:
Sherry Hill
Cassandra Clayborn
Marilyn Coleman
Marion Barber
Barbara Allen
Greg Schuman

I have an old graduation picture of my graduating class.  I will post it when I dig it out.

You all come and share your memories with me

  1. Wow what a cool blog! I also attended Pattengill Elementary in 1982 & 1983 for 2nd & 3rd grade. I lived on Ivanhoe between Beechwood & Ironwood. I totally remember Ms. Vanderberg! What I also remember about the school is my 2nd grade teacher Ms. Harrington and my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Kochis. Mrs. Harrington used to yell at the class alot. In the 3rd grade there was a boy named Jeremiah that used to like me and chase me after school everyday..ha ha. Yes, I remember the tables that retracted into the wall! I also remember picture day in the 2nd grade, because my classmate, Famika Green wore the same dress except mine was blue and hers was pink. I think I got my dress from Kingsway (blast from the past). I also remember going to the corner store daily on the corner of Northfield & Ivanhoe.

    Classmates I remember are:

    Stacey Robinson
    Famika Green
    Jeremiah (last name I forget)
Latoinette Jones & her twin brother
